Your journey begins in Split, meeting your driver at the given hotel or private accommodation address. Indeed, Plitvice are a must-do when traveling from Split to Zagreb. After 2 hours of the scenic drive, we arrive at Plitvice park. The park was established in 1949 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. We will walk along the majestic string of sixteen cascaded lakes connected with beautiful waterfalls inside the park. The tour of the National Park (if you choose to have one for additional cost) will take approximately 3 hours, with hiking along both upper and lower lakes, a boat ride over the big lake, and a train ride through the park area at the end. Don’t miss seeing “Veliki Slap”, the highest waterfall in the Plitvice National Park, 78 meters high.
After time exploring the park, we continue our trip toward Zagreb. Another half an hour drive, we arrive at Rastoke. Idyllic watermill village is often called “the Small Lakes of Plitvice” (Optional stop, vignette to be paid at the spot). The village found its place at the foot of the 19th-century Napoleon’s army Magazine (storage). The area of Rastoke was the eastern border part of Napoleon’s Empire. After a short stop and time for coffee, we have time for lunch in a local restaurant. Visit Rastoke Village for up to 1 hour – additional 35 EUR (price per vehicle, not per person)
Additionally (at your own expense), you can enjoy a “traditional lunch” in one of the local restaurants. You will enjoy the stunning countryside landscape, local homemade folk-cuisine specialties, and excellent local wines. Serving domestic cheese, prosciutto, pancetta, hard cow cheese, baked potatoes, and the most delicious bread. What else to look for? Following lunch, we are continuing the trip towards Zagreb and are expected to arrive in Zagreb at 5.00 pm.
